Wearable solar cells go into battle

A wearable solar panel developed by the Australian National University is being trialled in a contract with the Department of Defence.

As infantry soldiers are kitted out with ever more sophisticated electronic equipment about  their persons, so the need to carry a myriad of batteries into battle becomes more and more necessary.

The developers hope the solar ‘vests’ will enable an across-platform charging solution for these devices, whilst  eliminating the need for batteries to also be carried.

And although it’s a military application, I wouldn’t be surprised if the development aids civil projects in the very near future.
