Get Reading reported how an innovative new scheme, encouraging schools to take up solar energy is receiving considerable backing from local councils and businesses.
Four schools have already signed up to a scheme which will see them benefit from solar panel installations.
This pilot scheme see’s schools displaying a website with empty panels on it. Through fund raising – selling the ‘blank solar panel squares’ to family, friends and parents work colleagues, ‘panels’ get filled in.
Each ’tile’ costs £5 with each £1 raised generating £3 in energy savings.
The schools will also be able to use the solar panels in an educational exercise.
